"Today a child, tomorrow a leader"

For Saw Aung Chitlo, these words have been more than just a motto—they have guided his journey of personal growth and commitment to empowering young people in his community. Known among his peers as Mine Khine Yaing or Kyaw Mine during his school days, Saw Aung Chitlo joined the Batch 3 Youth Leadership Program at Rays of Youth while he was in 9th grade at the Children Development Center (CDC).

His motivation to join the program came from witnessing the courage, determination, and leadership of other young people in his community, as well as the inspiring example of older peers and siblings. He wanted to grow, learn, and contribute meaningfully to his community, and the program offered the perfect platform to do so.

During the program, Saw Aung Chitlo gained invaluable experiences. He learned how to lead and manage projects, conduct presentations, and work collaboratively with other youth to make a positive impact. He participated in community awareness sessions, school-based educational activities, and peer exchanges, which strengthened his confidence and communication skills. The program also offered training in Leadership and Management, COM (Children on the Move), SRHR, Basic English, Basic Thai, and Basic Computer skills—knowledge that continues to guide him to this day. Before joining the program, Saw Aung Chitlo describes himself as shy and lacking self-confidence, hesitant to take initiative. The leadership training transformed him, helping him overcome fear, build self-belief, and take on responsibilities with courage and dedication.

Today, Saw Aung Chitlo serves as a school headmaster and teacher, teaching Geography and Computer. His responsibilities include managing school operations, supporting teachers and students, and applying the leadership and management skills he learned at Rays of Youth. Even as he pursued higher education, he continued to apply the lessons, knowledge, and skills gained from the program to guide his work and personal development.

His guiding motto, “Today a child, tomorrow a leader,” continues to inspire both himself and the students he mentors. Saw Aung Chitlo shares this vision with young people, reminding them that the experiences and opportunities of today shape the leaders of tomorrow. He expresses deep gratitude to Rays of Youth for being the light that guided him and continues to inspire the youth in his community.
