“Motivation from others is temporary — discipline is what saves you.”
For Roger Moe, this motto was once just a phrase he heard during training. But as he continued his journey with Rays of Youth, those words slowly became the foundation of his discipline, resilience, and personal transformation. Joining the Peer Youth Leadership Program Batch 4 in 2019 and serving in the Youth Network for two years, he discovered not only leadership and citizenship, but also the responsibility of taking charge of his own life.
Throughout his time with the program, he developed meaningful skills that shaped his character — learning to lead with empathy, communicate with confidence, and support others with patience. These lessons prepared him to face the world with strength. Yet, his journey was not always bright.
As a student, Roger Moe faced one of the darkest times in his life. Depression, exhaustion, and confusion overwhelmed him. He felt lost, unable to see his future or set goals. His discipline faded, and there were moments when living felt too heavy. Eventually, he stepped away from everything — his plans, his activities, and the dreams he once held close. In those moments, giving up seemed like the only option.
But from this difficult chapter, he learned a powerful truth: motivation from others fades, but discipline is what carries you through. During his break, he realized that it is acceptable to pause, to rest, and to breathe. A temporary stop does not erase one’s path — it simply offers space to regain strength. With this understanding, he returned to his journey with clearer purpose and stronger determination.
Roger Moe rebuilt himself slowly and intentionally, relying not on fleeting motivation but on consistent discipline. Step by step, he rediscovered his goals and the reasons behind them. He learned that taking a break does not mean failure; it means being human. What matters most is rising again with a renewed heart.
Today, he is a teacher — a role that allows him to fully understand what leadership truly means. Guiding students is not always easy, especially those who struggle with stress, loneliness, and self-doubt just as he once did. When he looks at them, he sees his own past and remembers why he chose this path. With empathy and patience, he encourages his students to release pressure, to rest when needed, and to never disappear from their journey. Just as the Rays of Youth program once supported him, he hopes to become a source of light for the young people who need direction.
His message to others is simple and heartfelt: You will get tired. You will feel lost. This is normal. Do not force yourself — pause, rest, and then rise again. Discipline will carry you farther than motivation ever will. And no matter how dark it becomes, you can always return to your path.
Roger Moe expresses his deep gratitude to Rays of Youth for shaping his journey, strengthening his spirit, and guiding him toward the leader he is becoming.
