"Growth begins the moment you choose courage over fear."

For Myat Hsu Mon, these words represent the turning point in her life — a journey of transformation from a shy, quiet student into a confident young leader making a real impact in her community.

Her story with Rays of Youth (ROY) began in 2017, when she was a Grade 7 student. After attending one of ROY’s Peer-to-Peer training sessions, she was deeply inspired by the youth leaders who confidently stood in front of others and shared their voices. With the encouragement of her teacher, she decided to join the Youth Leadership Program Batch-3, hoping to overcome her fears and become a braver, more confident, and independent woman.

When she first joined, Myat Hsu Mon described herself as introverted and shy, often afraid to speak or engage with others. Through the leadership program, she gradually learned to step out of her comfort zone. She developed vital speaking and communication skills, built her self-confidence, and discovered her passion for helping others. The program also equipped her with strong leadership, teamwork, and language skills, empowering her to express herself and connect with people from diverse backgrounds.

After earning her Diploma, Myat Hsu Mon continued her journey with Rays of Youth by completing a six-month internship, where she gained practical experience in youth development work. Today, she proudly serves as a Project Assistant under the SMILE Project, applying her knowledge and passion to support and empower her community.

Myat Hsu Mon shares her deep gratitude toward Rays of Youth, saying that the program changed most of her life.

“I may not be perfect yet, but I’m still trying every day. ROY helped me become braver and more confident, and I want to make ROY proud of who I am becoming.”

Her story is a reminder that transformation starts with courage — and that even quiet voices can grow strong enough to inspire others.
